Of course there are others who have it worse than we do such as people who are homeless or a family who is trying to give their children the best presents but due to their financial situation cannot provide the toys that their classmates get for Christmas. Some parents end up working a second job to provide their children a good Christmas. During the Holiday season you start to realize what a void your life is without a significant other. You long for a significant other like a child from a family that is less fortunate wants the toys that every other child receives. Right after the holiday season you get another reminder of how empty your life is without a significant other and how much you long for someone to love you.

It may not even be that the person with aspergers does not experience emotions, but rather that he or she does not know how to express these emotions.

Behavioral and preliminary neuroimaging findings suggest autism manifests differently in girls. Notably, females with autism may be closer to typically developing males in their social abilities than typical girls or boys with autism. Girls with autism may be harder to diagnose for several reasons, including criteria developed specifically around males and overlapping diagnoses such as obsessive-compulsive disorder or anorexia.

When Frances was an infant, she was late to babble, walk and talk. She was three before she would respond to her own name. Although there were hints that something was unusual about her development, the last thing her parents suspected was autism. But even he did not recognize the condition in his daughter, who was finally diagnosed at about five years of age. Today Frances is a slender, lightly freckled year-old with her dad’s warm brown eyes.

Like many girls her age, she is shy but also has strong opinions about what she does and does not want. Their mom, Page, can recall how different the diagnostic process was for her two children. With Lowell, it was a snap. With Frances, she says, they went from doctor to doctor and were told to simply watch and wait—or that there were various physical reasons for her delays, such as not being able to see well because of an eye condition called strabismus that would require surgical treatment at 20 months.

I dated a guy from Denmark that was diagnosed with Asperger’s at a young age. Through proper teaching, he was taught how to recognize social cues, when other people are upset, etc. But it doesn’t come naturally to him.

In one response, you mentioned that one of your ex-girlfriends had not communicated a concern she had with you about being moody, anxious, etc. I have a moody boyfriend, and it seems that just about anything negative that happens in his life can get him in a bad mood. He just backs away, and stays there, sometimes for days. Sometimes I just ignore it, go about my business, and wait for him to re-emerge.

Since you mentioned being moody, I was wondering — is that a thing of the past? Are you still moody, and if so, how does your wife deal with it? Or did you do something about it because it affected your relationships? Before I go any further, allow me to acknowledge a few things: I dated a LOT in that time and while there were many stretches where I could get by on charm, I could never mask my perpetual dissatisfaction with my career.

Both are recipes for failed relationships. Life can be tough, especially in light of thwarted dreams, unrealistic expectations, financial instability, flimsy support networks, and run-of-the-mill insecurities. But not everyone deals with things in the same way; and, whether we like it or not, this stuff matters.
